About Dan Brown
I'm a video editor and motion designer based in Parker, Colorado, working fully remotely. I studied Cinema Arts and Sciences at Columbia College Chicago, and I've spent my career editing and building motion graphics across just about every format there is. Real estate, social, corporate, product, testimonials.
For the last six years that's meant supervising post-production for a high-volume templated video operation. I came in as one of the first members of the team that built the product, started as an editor, and grew with it into running the operation and the editors behind it. These days I own the template library the work runs on, and the brand-compliance standards it has to hold to across more than twenty brands.
Somewhere in there the question I cared about stopped being how do I make this video and became how do I make a thousand of them without doing it by hand a thousand times. So I started building render pipelines that produce After Effects templates at scale. It wasn't much of a leap. I was already building the templates, so automating how they render was the obvious next thing to try.
I build these systems with an AI-assisted approach, which is how I ship production-grade software without a traditional engineering background. Honestly it's the same instinct that makes me a decent editor: work out what the process actually is, then make it faster and harder to break.
Alongside client work I run two projects of my own: PropertyEdits, a real estate video service, and Stomptones, where I build audio software and VST plugins.
